Safety treated as a core feature, not an afterthought.
Meeting a stranger in person is the risky part of online dating, so Cordel Connect is building a real safety toolkit around it. Below is each capability's actual current status — we'd rather tell you a feature isn't ready than have you rely on one that isn't.
Emergency contacts
Implemented & testedAdd, edit, and store trusted contacts inside the app. This flow is verified end-to-end, including a fix confirmed on real devices.
Check-in pins
Private-test buildDrop a real GPS pin on a map for "I'm leaving," "I've arrived," and "I'm back safe." The code path is wired end-to-end, but we don't yet have on-device proof of the full three-pin flow running start to finish — treat it as private-test quality, not field-proven.
Contacting someone, honestly
Private-test buildWhen an alert goes out, the app reports which contacts were actually reached versus not, based on real delivery confirmation rather than an assumed "sent" message. A full end-to-end alert-triggering test is still outstanding.
Live location sharing
In developmentYour location is captured and stored when you start a safety session, but it is not yet delivered anywhere a trusted contact can actually see it. Don't rely on this to let someone track you in real time yet — that connection isn't built.
Spoken safety phrase
In developmentYou can set and save a safety phrase today. Saying it out loud does not yet do anything — voice detection isn't connected to safety alerts yet. Treat this as inactive until we say otherwise.
Never impersonates police/911, never secretly records
True by designThere is no recording capability anywhere in the app, and calling 911 places a real phone call — it never simulates one.
Limitations that apply across all of this
- Every safety feature needs an active internet connection — nothing works offline.
- Location is only read while the app is open in the foreground; there is no background tracking yet.
- Contact delivery is best-effort SMS. It is not guaranteed, and the app tells you honestly when a message fails rather than claiming it succeeded.
- Cordel is not a replacement for emergency services. If you are in danger, call 911 or your local emergency number yourself.
